(More customer reviews)i believe 10-80 ft/lbs range is ideal for the weekend shade-tree auto mechanic. i used this wrench for suspension, brakes and minor engine work. overall very pleased, has a solid feel to it. not the best torque wrench i've seen so far but much better than that auto store loaner tools. i expect to use it for a long time. keep in mind that torque wrenches are not meant to be dropped, used as hammers or breaker bars.

I then calibrated the lever arm by using a precision electronic torque wrench and then back calculated the lengths using my known weights. A known torque exists when the arm is horizontal and the weights jar lifted off the floor. I made a table of lever arm lengths and weight combinations so I could determine the applied torque in any situation. TEKTON 24340 1/2
It doesn't matter whether its just tightening the lug bolts on the family car or tightening a fastener on a piece of machinery that costs hundreds of thousand dollars, knowing the exact torque, or tightness, will insure optimal operation. read here
There are other torque wrench tools like the click type that can be preset to get the desired torque. This tool makes a sound when the clutch slips on achieving the desired torque. The operator decides the amount of torque that needs to be attained. TORQUEWRENCHKING
